Top 100 American Beers

Top 100 American Beers

I can honestly say I've had 10 of these. I've possibly had 2 or 3 others, can't remember.

Glad to see some local breweries on there - Dogfish Head and Victory.

why is it that all these heavier beers, the stouts, porters and bocks, load up the higher numbers?

What I wanna know is why is there a not a 'National Beer Day'?

Now I know some of you might be thinking that it would be St. Patty's Day. Nope, don't think so.

Beer is so important that it needs...no, requires...make that DEMANDS a day of singulairity.

What say you?

ps- I've had 5 on this list

Interesting list, although there are most definitely beers that deserve to be there, including but not limited to:

120 minute IPA - Dogfish Head (Delaware)
Outmeal stout - Young's (Britain)
Chimay Tripel or Westmalle Dubbel - Chimay Trappists (Belgium)
Pilsner Urquell - (Czech)
Hefeweizens in general, like German Franziskaner or American style like Penn's (Pittsburgh)

While I love and prefer darker beers I don't think that a top 100 list should outright bias them.

I think that beer bottle labels would have helped refresh my memory, but I only counted 11. And out of 100, that isn't the percentage I was hoping for. Must... keep... drinking.

Bob, what do you mean by "higher numbers"? Alcohol, IBU's, price? Generally speaking, the more malt used the more fermented sugars will be available for the yeast to convert to alcohol, and the more unfermentable sugars/starches will be available to give the beer is body and color. Also the higher the alcohol and malt content, the more hops are typically used to balance the sweetness with bitterness.

Kath, there is Oktoberfest. But that is not widespread enough, and it is too singular on a specific style of beer. So good idea. What do we propose to make it's own day?

Now that I think of it (delayed reaction) glad you published this list, KOBW. Will take it with me to the GABF.

20 days and counting.

Are you guys jealous beyond words? Not to worry, will taste everything I can get into my 4 oz tasting thimble....and then think of you guys!

I got jealous as soon as I found out it was in Colorado. The best we have here is the Sipping by the River event, and that is so so.

BTW, my "deserve" list includes imports and the BA's list was America only. My point was there weren't really any styles other than Stout or IPA represented.

Yeah Ken, CO is a cool place for a beer fest or just as a place to live. I am way jealous, since you guys have Dogfish Head in your own backyard. They are one of my top 3 breweries. Their Punkinhead Ale is TO DIE FOR...especially with BBQ ribs!)

Just might have to come out to DE one of these years:-)

(you guys have been warned!)

DFH is one of my favorites, right up there with Victory, both in terms of quality and with diverse options. Let us know when you will visit the small wonder state, and we'll mix up some six packs of the best we can offer. I don't promise anything, but maybe I'll even try Jager again.

Hey, check this out, I became a Beer Advocate member (as if that means anything) then got curious about their rating system. I can't get a beer to score lower than mid-60's, and that includes searching for beers like bud light, natural ice, schlitz, black label, bootie light (lol), olde english-800, PBR, coors light, etc. No offense to any of the masses, they have their place, but the scores are on one hell of a curve.

O'douls was a 74, MGD light scored a 76, and schlitz lite was an 81. The lowest core I could get was 63 for Bud Light. See if you can beat that.

Hey Ken - do you think we could hire ourselves out as professional blog commenters? Wonder if there's any money in that?

Of course, we'd still comment on our fave blogs for free. Or beer. Or both.

Brilliant!
