Dave 'the hammer' Schultz

As a little kid, I remember listening with my parents to the Philadelphia Flyers in the Stanley Cup playoffs on the radio. This was 1975, I had just turned three. I don't remember a whole lot, mostly how the stereo looked and the living room we sat in. I do remember how excited my parents got listening to it. And that started my fascination with ice hockey. It's the only sport I like today. I love playing hockey. So, it's with a cool sneer that I am happy to present to you:

AskMen.com's Top 10 Intimidating Teams. Guess who made #1 baby?

geez, Walt, I didn't think you were quite that aged.

That 91-92 Sabre squad did make things interesting, but I remember the 95-96 Sabres, who had the triple billing of Rob Ray, Brad May, and the irrepressible Matthew Barnaby.
That team was tough, but almost a Looney Tunes caricature of goonery.

It's sad that the best team the Flyers ever had is now the archetype for which all the Spectrum dwelling Old Heads scream at the TV for.

"aged" - I like it.

Barnaby, that massive a-hole. I totally remember those years.

And the old league stuff - the crush and maim just didnt fit as nice in the new rules NHL. I think the Clarkie is starting to see the writing on the wall.

my all-time Barnaby moment...

March 29, 1996...Flyers and Sabres at the Aud, Flyers lead 4-2 with 20-something seconds left in the 2nd period. Barnaby chooses to mix it up with Garth Snow in the crease during a stoppage, and goes down like he's shot once Garth steps up.

When Buffalo's trainer goes out to see what's wrong with #36, a disbelieving Snow takes a poke with his goalie stick, and turns away - prompting Matty to go after Snow while his back is turned. 12 player brawl ensues, and the remaining seconds of the 2nd period play out at the start of the 3rd.

Oh, yeah...Flyers win, 6-5 in overtime.

Damn...I'm making sure to stop by here daily when hockey season is in full swing!

Yay Flyers :-)
